Award-winning adventure photographer Ian Mackie moved to the Pacific Northwest 10 years ago, leaving behind the suburbs of Massachusetts in search of higher mountains, desolate trails and deeper snow. Captivated by the diversity and beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Ian always finds an excuse to pack up the skis, bike or sea kayak in search of a new adventure. Unable to find the right words to describe the beauty and magic of our natural surroundings, Ian chooses photography to convey a unique and inspiring look at man and the environment.
Ian currently resides in Seattle, Washington, although every three to four months that location tends to change. Recently he and his fiancee spent the winter in Whitefish, MT, a small mountain town located just outside the entrance to Glacier National Park. The beautiful Pacific Northwest summers tend to draw them back to Seattle though, where his time is often split between photography trips, racing mountain bikes for the local Beneroya Research Institute cycling team and, in order to pay for his photography trips, working for the SEO Seattle firm, Web 1 Marketing as a search engine marketing consultant.
Ian’s photographs have appeared at numerous galleries, including the Globe Gallery in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, as well as in marketing material for REI and the WA Environmental Council. His work has been chosen for a variety of awards, including as a selection in the prestigious Environmental Photography Invitational which led to being a part of a gallery exhibit at the Art Wolfe Gallery.
Besides venturing out on his own photo adventure tours, Ian has, over the past couple years, been fortunate to work alongside the likes of Art Wolfe. Much is Ian’s photography work is influenced by his stint working with Art at his gallery in Seattle.
