What price are we willing to pay to drive green?

A friend forwarded me a great article on ‘green cars’ and how most consumers (unless you live in certain states, like California or the northeast) can’t buy them despite the fact that the technology exists to make these truly clean vehicles. You really have to wonder what is going on with the automakers and our politicians when reading articles like this one.

At the end of the article the product planning chief for Honda states bluntly:

"We want to give people the cleanest vehicles we can produce, but how much are people willing to pay for clean air?"

Unfortunately in the US probably not very much, unless of course the vehicle portrays them as an environmentalist, as owners of a Prius will admit is one huge reason for buying the car.
