Recycling Ink Catridges (unless you have an EPSON!)

It’s easy to recycle ink cartridges (or cell phones or card board boxes or just about anything for that matter) but unfortunately it’s easier to just throw this stuff away. As a photographer who makes his own prints, I’m all too familiar with the ink conspiracy going on between Epson, Canon, and HP.

The next time you find yourself replacing ink cartridges, don’t just throw the old ones away. Grab a bag and after you’ve collected one or ten or however many, go to one of these sites and RECYCLE THEM. It’s easy and some will even PAY YOU for your empty ink cartridges.

GET THIS! I just got off the phone with a rep from inkjetcartridges.com and was baffled to hear that I may have a really hard time finding a place that will take used-up EPSON ink cartridges. Apparently, because of how EPSON cartridges are designed they are very difficult to reuse and refill and it just doesn’t make sense financially to recycle them. This to me is a huge disappointment, for many reasons. For one, I just purchased an EPSON R2400 because I know this printer produces high quality prints. I’m a true believer in recycling and this may prevent me from ever buying EPSON again, honestly. Secondly (and I’ll have to confirm this) but the rep was under the impression that even EPSON themselves doesn’t recycle any of their cartridges. Can you imagine??????

I’m going to research this a bit more, so stay tuned…

  1. I fully understand where you’re coming from. I nearly didn’t buy a R2400 for the problem of recycling them.

I have found that you can the cartridges back to Epson. This was confimed on the phone by Epson themselves.

Sadly though this is a UK address, so the carbon cost in freighting them across the Atlantic is not going to help you.

    More info on my blog.

Matt – I also spoke with Epson and I was under the impression they only take back specific ink cartridges and those from the R2400 were NOT included. I hope I’m wrong.
