Can we make a difference?

Most definitely, but a lot needs to happen NOW. I’m not an expert on environmental issues. living sustainably or the economics of biofuel, but I try to put aside some time to educate myself (and you) on these matters, mostly so I can argue with my father.

While browsing the depths of the Internet I came across a pretty neat website, StumbleUpon, which is trying to capitalize on the growing trend of social media. StumbleUpon isn’t a website per se, it is actually an extension for both Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers. When you load the tool bar you can choose which topics are of interest to you, say photography, the environment and travel. It than allows web surfers to rank and share the websites they visit, both the good ones and those that should be buried in the ever-growing landfill of Internet trash.

So what do people consider worthwhile reading? I began stumbling through some of the ENVIRONMENTAL sites and so far have found some worthy of mentioning here:

Do you know how much power your PC or MAC consumes? – www.localcooling.com UPDATE (3/24): I’ve been running the LocalCooling widget for about six weeks now and the results are in. I’ve saved almost one tree, just under 8 gallons of fuel and 16.10 KWH of electricity by using the HIGH settings offered by the Local Cooling program. I like the fact that if I leave the laptop for more then five minutes, the screen shuts off. And why not; If I’m not around why should it be on. At this point I think I’m going to remove the program and adjust my laptop settings on my own. I appreciate what LocalCooling has taught me, but at this point I think it’s just using up RAM.
